Szikra Ágnes- Fény

The sea

Megcsinálja magának a fényt.

Elképzelem, amint talán éppen egy másik pince mélyén kotorászva hirtelen rábukkan a rég elfeledett fényecsetre, megfogja és a zajos, büdös, kutyapiszkos, szemetes nagyvárost szépen átfesti szívet melengető, barátságos, fényárban úszó metropolisszá, megtanítva az Ő városának, amit Moszkva, Berlin, New York vagy Prága már régen tud, hogy a világ közepe.

Különleges élményt nyújtanak képei, ami éppen a trendi témaválasztás elutasításából fakad.

Under ground: our imagination associates cold and darkness to it. An exhibition about light in the dim basement, that’s a bit steep! But never mind! Agnes Szikra is not afraid in darkness cause she is singing, that is to say: painting. She creates the light for herself.

I imagine her delving in another cellar, suddenly tumbling on the lightbrush forgotten a long time ago, taking it and painting the noisy, stinky, trashy capital into a heart-warming, friendly, shining metropolis, theaching her city something that Moscow, Berlin, New York or Prague already knows: to be the middle of the world.

Her paintings provide especial experiences arising from the rejection of stylish subjects. She could easily slip on a shaft if her brilliant technical knowledge wouldn’t couple with a perfect sense of balance helping her to confidently avoid the inviting, money-making range of touristic painting, knowing at the same time that it is risky what she undertakes and also knowing that there is no significant result without taking a risk. She is a brave artist, taking risks and winning. Empty bynights of big cities admired to death are transformed into egzotic spaces in her paintings where the soul can be easy and glad without alcohol or dugs, beauty is condensed, light is risen into a golden stream. Accordingly it is not miraculous if even Nils Holgersson appears on the sky of Budapest.

When she gets bored of urban dreams she turns the wildgoose-plane back and flies „home” with Holgersson to the chilly waters of the Baltic sea, as she is at home everywhere, in life as well as in painting. Her bubbles painted with sensitivity, soft and transparent, still not popping but rolling on the waves of the sea like a sigh of dreams about far-away lands, back and forth.

Brave and sensitive. These two attributes appear first at the sight of her paintings and we also need to recall our courage and sensitivity to be able to leave our prejudice behind and submerge in her brave venture.
